LAWRENCE ARBOR DAY COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the snb-committee recently Appointed to arrange for the celebration of A--bor Day in Lawrence met on Saturday afrernoon, there being present — Messrs Herbert, M'lntosh, Pilling, and Jeffery (Secretary). Mr Stenhouse was also present. It was resolved that Mr Herbert be appointed permanent chairman. Mr Pilling proposed : "That Arbor Day in Lawrence be observed on Thursday, 17th instant ; th&t the procession of school children form sharp at 1.30 p.m. on that day ; and that the business people be respectfully requested to close their establishments at noon on the 17th inst. instead of 1 o'clock."— Carried. Resolved, on the motion of Mr M'lntosh : "That a treat be provided for the children taking part in the Arbor Day proceedings; and that with the object of raisiug the necessary funds, a concert be held in the Town Hall in the evening, Mr J. J. Woodsto be requested to conduct same : the charge of admission to be Is." It was resolved that application be made to the Domain Board to procure 300 trees for planting on Arbor Day ; that the trees be supplied to the children at 3d each ; and that the Board be requested to engage a man to dig the holes for the trees and otherwise prepare the ground. It was further resolved that donations of native trees and shrubs be invited for planting in the ground set aside for the Arbor Day proceedings, and that same be left in Mr M'lntosh's care. It was nnanimonsly resolved that the Very Rev. Father O'Le&ry be asked to allow the children attending St Patrick's school to join in the procession and take part in the day's proceedings. The meeting was then adjourned until Saturday, 12th instant, at 3 p.m.
