DUNEDIN MARKETS-STOCK &o. Bvbxbidb— Wednesday

Fat Cattle.— For to-day's sale 149 head were yarded, and, this number not exceeding the demand, they met with a good sale— values, as compared with last week's, being quite 10a per head higher. Best bullocks brought from L 7 17s 6d to L 9 15s ; ordinary, L6 to L 7 15s : small, L3 los to Ls lss ; best cows, L6 to L7 7s 6d ; ordinary. L4to L 5 10s ; inferior and aged, L 2 toL3 lo*.— Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 61 head as follows : — For Mr James M'Lean (Mainholm), 13 prime bullocks at from L 6 15s to L7 7s 6d ; for Mrs James Brown (East Taiert), 15 bullocks at quotations ; For Mr George Morris (Catlins), 4 bullocks at to L 7 10s, and 2 heifers at L4 l2s 6d.

Fat Sheep. — The market was again lightly supplied, only some 1900 odd being penned, and at least one-third of these were not much better than stores. The sale was a brisk one throughout, and excellent prices were the order of the day. Prime crossbred wethers brought from 17s 6d to 19a 6J ; ordinary, 16s to 17s ; light, 14s to 15s ; prime crossbred ewes, 17s to 18a ; ordinary, 15s to 16s 6d ; small, 12s to 14s. — Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr Alexander Manson (Southland), 60 very prime crossbred wethers at 19* 3d ; for Mr Duncan M'lntosh (Glenesk), 32 crossbred wethers at 17s 6d, and 28 do do (smaller) at 16s ; for a Southland client, 32 crossbred wethers at 16s 3d, and 28 do do at 15s 6d.— The Farmers Agency Co. sold for Mr Sinclair Williamson (WaitahunaJ. 50 crossbred wethers at 17s 6d to 18a 3d.

Pigs.— Only 74 penned. Extra heavy fat pigs brougbt 50s to 60s ; prime bacon pigs, 38s to 445 ; prime porkers, 24s to 31s ; stores, 38s 6d to 235.

Store Cattle. — There is only a very moderate demand for these in the meantime ; buyers for fattening are pretty well supplied.

Store Sheep. — A good many small sales of these are still being effected, but the supply is now about being exhausted. Dealers are the principal operators. Wool. — There is nothing doing in the local market beyond the placing of the usual oddments invariably to hand at this season of the year, aloDg with occasional lots of fellmongers' get up, all of which as a rule bring very fair prices considering those obtaining at Home.

Sheepskins. — The demand for these, it is satisfactory to note, continues very active, and prices this week compared with those of last are fully higher, quality considered. .

Rabbitskins. — The supply, though still limited, is now showing a slight increase from week to week, and as the winter advances the quality of the fur on the skins coming forward also show some improvement Latest saved have the preference, and these fetch Is to Is l£d ; autumns, 8d to lOd ; summon, 5d to 7d : suckers and half-grown, 2\ to 4£d per lb. Hides. — All coming to hand are readily placed, but pi ices obtaining show no improvement, nor are they likely to until a more favourable market is discovered, which at present seams a long way off. Tallow. — The market coniinues fairly ■teady. There are no fluctuations of any consequence being experienced.

Wheat.— The demand for wheat continues exceedingly restricted. Quotations for best milling, velvet and Tuscan, 3a 6d to 3s 9d ; good to best, 3s to 3s 3d ; medium to good, 2s 8d to 3s ; inferior to good whole fowl's w^eafc, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; broken, ]s 9d to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats.— The supplies from the country

j arriving now are extremely light ; indeed if reports are corrreot, there are not very many more to come. Quotations fur best milling. Is B|d to Is 9<i ; best brient short feed, I7i<i to Is 8d ; medium to good, Is 6d to Is 7d ; inferior to medium, la 2>i to Is s£d (ex store, sacks extra, net cifth). Barely.— Quotations fur prime malting, 3s 6d to 3* 9d, medium to good 3r to 3s 44 ; feed and milling,2s to 2i 8d (ex store, sacks extra, terms). Grass Seeds. —There is no alteration to note in the tone of the market, which n still dormant, the business doing being only to a very limited extent. Potatoes. — only real prime Derwents are at all saleable, which fetch 30s to 35s ? others, when saleable range from 20s to 27« 6d per ton, (sacks weighed in). Chaff.— The supply this weeif has been rather :n excess of actual requirements, but, while readily saleable, buyers are not disposed to pay last weeks price's. Quotations : For best, V 47s 6d to 52a 6d ; medium, 40a to 455 ; inferior, 25s to 37s 6d per »on (sa3k3 extra). Dairy Produce.— The market is quite hare or prime potted butter, and in request, at lOd to lOjd for dairy made ; little or no factory-made procurable. Flax. — Holders of stock now in town would only be too glad to quit at a considerable reduction on prices lately purchased at. Litest advices from London report fair quality at L2O per ton.
