ROXBURGH MINING NOTES.

An occasional correspondent sends us the following : — In the Amalgamated Co.'s claim both elevators are kept going steadily, night and day. Ihdt another dividend has been declared by this company must be gratifying news to the shareholders. The shares, however, still remam stationary and show no inclination to rise. Two or three more dividends will, I daresay, give them the necessary upward ]ump. The wash showing at present gives indications that the next cleaning up will give a good result.

I hear that the shareholders of the defunct Commissioners Flat Co. are showing a strong disinclination to resist payment of the halfcrown guarantee. The reason assigned for this by the dissatisfied ones is that tbe guarantee was given for the purpose of testing the ground, and for that alone; and as they allege the ground was never tested, and the conditions, therefore, of the guarantee never fulfilled, by what the gentlemen of the Ion" robe call " the other side," they consider themselves freed from their responsibilities, bo you see the last has not yet been he->rd if this misfortune-haunted concern. It must be very mortifying to the local shareholders to see the expensive plant of the mine they built so many bright hopes on now g«i u «- past their doors to bring wealth imo the pockets ' or another company. Tne Hercules No. 2, after a short stoppage, has again made a start. The raaua<*er is"at present engaged in stripping on a part of the ground adjoining the Hercules No. 1. As soon as tbe top stuff is run away he intends sinking, and has hopes of coming on to a run of good gold. The Hercules No. 1 is going ahead steadily, and still continues to give good returns. . f, am S lad t0 uear that Mr Rigney'a patent is likely to prove a success. There is a large extent of auriferous grouud along the banks of the Molyneux river which only needs water to make it highly payable. If Mr Ri<r a ey'a invention can be made effective in working this ground, a boon of incalculable value will be conferred upon the mining population. The Dunedin Cos. dredga still maintains its reputation for good re urns. lam sorry to say the same cannot be said of the Ettrick and Millers Creek dredges. Thp returns from these two have never come up to anything like what was expected.
