THE LAST SURVIVOR OF TRAFALGAR.
M. Louis Cartigny, the last French survivor of the battle of Trafalgar, died at Hyeres, in the south of France, on March 21. The deceased, who was in his 101 st year, and retained his faculties to the last, served in 1805 as a powder-monkey on board the Redoubtable. On the surrender of that veßßel to the Teineraire, he was taken to England, where he remained a prisoner of war for a period of fourteen years. M. Cartigny was the doyen of the Order of the Legion of Honor, and on tbe occasion of the celebration of his centenary, last year, his countrymen showed great interest in the veteran. It had been announced that Her Majesty would pay M. Cartigny a visit during her stay at Hyeres.
