Vinegar Injurious.

It is the general belief that vinegar is wholesome and n necessary adjunct to the diet of man. Occasionally, also, one hears of its being used daily in quite Urge quantities bs a remedy for obesity. As a matter of fact, this acid might well be dispensed with altogether ; and certainly, if used at all, it tbould be with caution. As for its being efficacious as a flesh-reducer, it is about as much bo as typhoid fever or any severe disease, for it acts simply as a debilitator and impoverishes the syefcem. Several casea of death from its use in small glassfuls daily are on record. A little good vinegar ia not likely to do any harm, and when rightly used it seems to favor the digestion of certain foods. But, without doubt, as it ia generally u«ed, it doeß mush more barm than gond, aßd lemon iuico would bo far better. Even a raoJerfttoly excessive use of vinegar oaupes internal irregularity, whioh may show itself either by constipation 07 diarrhoea, also flatulency, etc. One writer considers it capable of inducing cough, flushing of the head and watery eyes. When used very intemperately, it produces blood changes, which may fcooomo immediately dangerous; if not, the deoHne in health is slow but certain. Besides using vinegar with caution, that used should be selected with exceeding care. Vinegar made from apples is very good, but not so good as that made from grapes. The latter is very expensive, but the chances arc it will eventually be sold as oheap, and largely displace oider vinegar.
