A WOMAN TARRED AND FEATHERED.

A telegram from Glen Gardner (N.J.) records a disgraceful outrage perpetrated upon a woman named Julia Melville, who was tarred and feathered by a mob of villagers. Mrs Melville was born at Califon, three miles from Glen Gardner, and is about twenty-five years of age. Being an attractive girl she received an offer of mawiiage from John Melville, whose wife she eventually became. . Her husband deserted her, and from that time she led a life that was a scandal to the neighborhood. She built a cabin in the woods, and lived the life of a tramp, with a sister, Hattie, aged seventeen years. There they were visited by lads from the surrounding hamlets, and all attempts to Btop the disgraceful proceedings proving ineffectual, the outrage was suggested and carried out. The men who suggested to tar and feather Mrs Melville accomplished their object, but only after a desperate struggle.

The " cathedral car," as it is called, in which the Epfecopal Bishop of Dakota holds service at various placfg along the line of railway, is a pronounced success. The railway employes themselves manifest great interest in the bishop's visits.
