Too Clever.
Once there was a lawyer who closed up an estate case, but be died many years ago. He was a young man. He had studied law in bis father's dlice and bis faaher finally retired and gave tho business to him. One day, less than a week after the old gentleman had letired, the youpg man eeme home find proudly eaid, —
" Father, you know that old Gilpin estate oase that you have been trying for years and years tc settle."
" Yes," answered the father with a Euggestion of a smile.
11 Well, it didn't take me two days to settle it after I get at it."
'• What 1" Bhouted the old lawyer. " You have settled the Gilpineßtate?" '• Yes ; and it was as easy as falling off a aloK."
" Well, yon infernal idiot, you I Wby, that ettate has paid the living expenses of our family for four generations, and mi»ht have paid them for four more if I hadn't left tee business to a ninny."
