He is well got, being by the celebrated sire, Lord Salisbury (imported), who has an unbeaten record in the show rine Dam, Highland Mary, imported from Victoria ; by Prince Charlie (imported) ; dam, Bonnie Jean imported from Scotland at a fabulous sum by — Simmonds, Esq., Victoria, thus showing that Lobd Cbanlet is of the purest- strain of Clydesdales. Baldwin ib a beautiful dark-brown colt, rising four-year old. He possesses great strength and substacce, with splendid flat bone, and grand feet and pasterns. He is full brother to Reformer. As a yearling Baldwin gained the following prizes, viz :— First at Waitahuna, second at Balclutha. As a two-year-old, he gained first prize at Balclutha, and second at Tokomairiro. As a three-yeariold, first at Dunedin Exhibition Show ; first at Tokomairiro, and first at Balcluthi. Sire, Gladstone, was shown in Duneiiu in 1880 as a two-year-old, and gained first prize ; also gained first prize at the same show the following year, and carried off first prize same day for best entire in the yard, any age, competing against aged horses. In 1831 he gained first prize at Taieri; same day, first for best entiro in the yard. In 1882 he .gained first at Taieri. Gladstone, by Prjnoe Charlie, was imported from Scotland by Mr Wm. Boag. Bred by Mr J. Nichol Fleming, of Knockdoti, out of his mare Dai-' ling. Prince Charlie and Prince of Wales are nearly full brothers they being both out of Darling, their sires being respectively i'be General and Prince Alfred, both by the same horse. Gladstone's dam, Maggie, by Tnumper, imported from Scotland by Mr William Moffatt. Baldwin's dsm, Lucy, bred by Robert Clark, Eeq. Lucy is the wiuner of eight first prizes and five second prizes. Lucy's sire, Taieri Lad. Taieri Lad as a yearling gnined the Silver Cup at the Taieri against 12 competitors ; as a two-year-old, Silver Medals at Tokomairiro and Balclutha Agricultural Shows, against five others ; as a three-year-old, first prize at Balclutha. Taieri Lad's sire, Emperor, by Napoleon, imported irom Scotland by the late Mr John Nina mo, out of Nancy, imported from Scotland by Mr W. H. Valpy. Lucy's dam, Maggie Watt, by Marquis, was champion mare for many years at Tokomairiro and Balclutha. Maggie Watt, out of Kate, bred by the late Peter Lawson. Kate, by Barr's Charley, by Lord Paisley, imported from Scotland by the late Robert Miller. Charley's dam, Blanohe, bred by M'lntosh Bros., Victoria, and imported to New Zealand by the late Mr David Nisbet ; by that celebrated horse Prince Charlie ; thus showing Baldwin to be connected with some of the best blood ever imported to New Zealand Terms — £3, half payable at end of season ; balance when mare proves in foal.
