THE WORLD'S MERCHANT NAVY.

'Iron' prints the following table compiled from statistics just issued by the Bureau Veritas, of Brussels, showing the number of steamers, with their gross tonnage, at present possessed by the leading steamship lines : —

The tendency of the vessels is to augmented tonnage. There are at present fifteen vessels of from 6,000 to 7,000 tons, eight of 7,000 to 8,000 tons, six of 8,000 to 9,000 tons, two of 9,000 to 10,000, and two exceeding 10,000 tons. The giants are the City of Paris and the City of New York, of 14,500 tons, and the Majestic and Teutonic, of 9,861 and 9,686 tons respectively, all four Liverpool steamers; the Fitrst Bismarck (German), of 8,874 tonß, and the Touraine (French), of 8,863 tons.
