came ok, and engaged the attention of a very large section of the House. Great interest is being taken in the measure, and it is meeting with very strong opposition. The clause of the Bill to which members take most objection is that embodying the one-man-oue-vote principle, ami nothing will induce the House to accept it as it stands. This the Government should understand from the tenor of the debate, as the measure was only allowed to go through its second stage on the distinct understanding that when the Bill got into committee the wishes of members on the one-man-one-vote principle would betaken into consideration. Were it not for this assurance, nothing would induce the House, and particularly the country members, to allow it to go through. The member for Tuapeka
