TUAPEKA BOWLING AND LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

The second annual meeting of the above Club was held in ,the Borough Council Chambers on Friday evening. There was a large attendance of members. Mr Rovell was voJed to the chair. The minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary (Mr Taylor) read the ' Committee's annual report, as follows :—: — Your Committee, in presenting their second annual report, have again to congr ululate the members upon the increasing popularity and success of the Club. During the yenr 17 now members have joined, besides a number of lady mftinbsrs. On .the other hand Dunedin and Milton Clubs were proved to be too experienced at the game for a young Club like yours (o compete nguinst with succes?. Three matches at, lawn-lonnis hare been pluyed during the season against other clubs —■viz., Bilc'uUia, Millon, and Green Island, your Club winning the fii'st- and losing the two latter. Two pairs r.£ bowis were presented for compß'itioM— ono pair by (he President and Vice-President jointly, and another by Mr Smaill. A racket was presented by the ViceiPreßidents. • The pair of bowla presented by Mr Sm.iill were competed for in rinks, and after a Jong and exciting contest were won by Mr Wcocs's rink. The other pair were won by Mr Jas. Robertson. j Your Committee wonld recommend that in future no prize matches be played in rinks, but be played off between two players, and that the score be 31 up, no player to be allowed more than one bye. The tennis racket was won by Mr G-. O. Taylor.

Duriug the winter your Committee have succeeded in forming a Joint Stock Ci mpany for the purpose of taking over the lease (upon its raaturiag) ot the Club's grounds. The capital of the Company is £400, in 40 £10share-, 36 of which have been tak'n up by members of the Glub, leaving 4 shares 9till unallotted. As will be seen from the Treasurer's statement, the present, indebtedness of the Club is £52 la 4d. Your Committee are fully persuaded that their successors will have no difficulty in clearing this off during the next season, as the groueds of the Club are now in good order, and their maintenance being all that is required. Your Committee acknowledge their indebtedne33 to Mr Motherwoll for the care and attention ho has bestowed upon the Club's property. The report was received and adopted. The balance-sheet, showing a debit balance of £52 Is 4d, was then read and adopted. On the motion of Messrs Griffin and Wither?, it was resolved to levy a special subscription (if 2s 6d per member for the purpose of entertaining "visiting teams. A vote of thanks to Mr Smaill for past services in connection with the Club was placed on the records. Mr Stenhouse proposed and Mr Gordon seconded : "That Dr Withers be President for the ensuing year." — Carried. X>c Withers proposed and Mr Capes seconded : " That Mr Wakefield be VicePresident. " — Carried. Mr Sfcenhouse proposed : " That Mr Harrop be appointed Treasurer and Mr Taylor Secretary." Mr Mitchmaon seconded the motion, which was carried. A ballot was taken for a new Committee, Messrs Capes and Barron acting as scrutineers, when Messrs Macdonald, Jeffery, Chalmers, Crooke, and Ureu were declared to be elected. On the motion of Mr Allmitt, seconded by Mr Robertson, a vote of thanks was given to the retiring officers. After the meeting a number of gentlemen were proposed as new members. The meeting was very enthusiastic, and the Club promises to be a great success during the approaching season.
