LATEST TELEGRAMS.

(From our own Correspondent.) Dunedin, September 25th. This morning Captain Carruthera, of the Huon Belle, noticed a body floating face downwards near the steps of the Rattray-street wharf, and the Police were at once communicated with. On the recovery of the body, which had the appearance of having been in the water a good while, it was found that one of the arms was broken and the head smashed in. It was dressed in tweed trousers and a blue guernsey. Deceased was identified this afternoon by a seaman as Robert Davis, of the barque Pactole. Foul play is not suspected, and the natural inference is that he fell over the side of the vessel and was injured by an obstruction of some kind.

The Bryce-Rusden Commission have finished taking evidence. By a fire in Timaru the Boot Palace was completely gutted, and the adjoining premises delugei with water. All the buildings destroyed were insured.
