. London, July 26th. Captain Seymour Hughe3, aide-de-camp to Sir Henry Loch, Governor of Victoria, and who is at present on a visit to England, is seriously ill. Sir Saul Samuel has written a letter to the "Economist" in answer to the criticisms t-f that paper that New South Wales was over-borrowing. The liquidators of the Oriental Bank estate propose to pay a further dividend of 7s in the £. Moat of the creditors are
accepting 17s in tho £ as a sottlcmout in full. A day has been set apart for national mourning.- at the death of General Grant. The body, which haa been embalmed and ia lying in state, will be interred at New York on August 8. In the House of Lords Earl Granville stated that he considered Lord Salisbury's treatment of Afghan and Egyptian Finance was entitled to the support of the liberals. The Blues (Royal Horse Guards) have entertained Lord Carrington at a banquet, at which the Prince of Wales was present. The wheat market is more active, and offcoast cargoes are in better demand at from 34s 3d to 34s 6d. No business hp-i been transacted in forward shipments. The weather is favorable for tho crops.
