LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), and Mesisrs Duncan, Green, ' and Clark. * TABI.E HIIL. W. R. Moore applied that section 10, block viii., and section 1, block ix., should be dealt with in Buch a way as to enable him to receive valuation for improvements. The Board decided that they had no power to grant the request. , tbviot. Mr Connell applied, on behalf of Messrs Cargill and Anderson, for a grazing lease over the coal reserve in block v., Teviot. —The' application was declined on the ground that the land was required for the purpose for which it was reserved. The District Land Officer, Clyde, reported that he' was not aware of any objection to the granting of the application of John Tamblyn to purchase two acres, being section 59, block n., Teviot. —The application was granted subject to a road-line being made from the preemptive right if required. Certificates of application for agricultural leases were approved as follows :—: — Thomas M'lntosh, section 3; William Crossan, section 5 ; Matthew Crossan, section 6 ; Thomas M'Culloch, section 9 ; Edward Tubman, section 11 ; all block xni., Benger. The application of Samuel Grogan for section 8, block xm., was objected to by R. Tubman. The Chief Commissioner said both men had put in an application for the same lease, and the Warden was of opinion that Tubman, as holding a pastoral deferred-payment section was debarred from taking up an agricultural lease. He (the Chief Commissioner) differed from this, and Mr Haggit's opinion upheld his view. H evertheleas, the Warden had issued a certificate to Grogan.

The Board resolved not to grant the certificate, being of opinion that Tubman was not debarred by the Act from holding an agricultural lease, and that he and Grogan should be placed in the same position as applicants.
