PARLIAMENTARY UNION.

A meeting was held in the Town Hall, Lawrence, on Wednesday evening, for the purpose of considering the report of the Provisional Committee and taking the neccessary steps to start the Union. On the motion of Mr J. Thompson, the

Yen. Archdeacon Beaumont was voted to the chair ; and, on the motion of Mr J. J. Woods, Mr Crooke wa3 appointed Secretary for the evening. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the report of the Provisional Committee was read

and approved. The rules and bye-laws were read and several clauses were deferred for further consideration. — On the motion of Mr Jeffery, seconded by Dr Withers, the rules, &c, as read and approved were adopted. The Rev. Mr Fraser proposed, and Mr Dodds seconded : " That the meetings of the Union be held in Trinity Church schoolroom." — Mr Stenhouse proposed as an amendment, and Mr Vivian seconded : "That the Town Hall be the place of meeiing." — After a good deal of discussion, during which arguments were advanced in favor of both buildings, the amendment was put to the meeting and lost. The motion was then put and declared carried.

On the motion of Messrs Jeffery and

T. Pilling, ib was decided to hold the meetings on Wednesday evening of each week. The next business before the meeting was the election of officers. Mr J. C. Brown proposed the Yen. Archdeacon Beaumont as Governor of the Union. The Rev. Mr Fraser seconded the motion. Mr Beaumont, while thanking them for the honor they wished to confer upon him, declined to accept the office, — Mr J. Thompson proposed Mr J. C. Brown as Governor. Mr Jeffery seconded the

motion, which was carried unanimously. —Mr Brown appreciated the honor done him that evening, and during his enforced absence at the Bitting of Parliament he would endeavor to appoint a fitting substitute. Mr Arbuckle proposed, and Mr Joseph seconded; "That Mr G. O. Taylor be « pointed Premier." -=- Several other ntlemen were proposed, but some were absent and others declined to stand for

the office, and eventually Mr Taylor was duly elected.— Mr Taylor Vaid that the office was unsought by him. He had spoken to other gentlemen more suitable for the office, but they put forward the plea of pressure of business as preventing them from standing. If he did not give satisfaction, the members could soon settle that matter.

Mr Jeffery proposed Mr Crooke as Clerk of the House. Mr Wakefield seconded the motion. .., Mr Cyoke declined.— :A number of- other gentlemen were then proposed, but as,none of them would congent to accept the office, Mr Crooke was prevailed? upon to give his consent to stand, and was duly appointed,

On the motion of Dr Withers, seconded by Mr T. Pilling, Mr Capes was appointed Treasurer. The names of members were then read, and the electoral districts apportioned to them.

It was decided to get copies of the rules and bye-laws printed.

A vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman,and the proceedings terminated.
