JOTTINGS FROM THE INTERIOR.

[By Telegraph.] (From our Special Correspondent.)

DtranEßiar, December 9th. I have juflfc returned from a trip round the Otago goldfields, which are in a very depressed state at present. Hundreds of miners and others are tramping the country in search of work. Many of the poor fellows are very hard up. The late rains have had a wonderful effect upon the crops all over Otago, and, with a month's fine weather, the prospects for an abundant harvest would indeed be good. The claims at Tinkers and St. Bathans are still paying handsome dividends to the lucky shareholders, *The reefs on the Old Man Bange, judging from some specimens I was shown g,t tho Teviofc by a large shareholder, will yet outrival the famous Reef ton mings j but it will' certainly take a lot of capital to open them up. White's reef, so far, shows the best prospects.
