The proprietors of the Melbourne "Age" have organised another expedition to proceed .with the exploration of New Guinea, under the leadership of Captain Strahan. The party, which consists of six men, has left here for New Guinea. . March 29th. Rumours are current here that Sir William Jervois will receive the appointment of Governor of Victoria ; that Sir William Robinson, Governor of South Australia, will succeed Sir William Jervois in New Zealand; and that Major-General Scratchley will be appointed Governor of South Australia. Sydney, March 28th. Great distress continues to be felt in the north-western portion of the Colony owing to the want of rain ; and frightful reports Have recently come from Gunedah district, where the long continued drought is resulting iv the destruction of myriads of sheep and cattle. March 29th. Hanlan gave an exhibition of rowing at Manley this afternoon, when he pulled a race with Edwards, his trainer. Neither Tricket nor Clifford were present as expected. Fully 8000 persons witnessed Hanlan's performance. Bishop Barry will be installed as Metropolitan of Australia on Tuesday, April 22nd. Melbourne, March 27th. A Masonic ceremony took place in the Melbourne Town Hall yesterday, when Sir William Clarke was installed as District Grand Master of the English, Scotch, and Irish Constitutions. Fully 3000 Masons were present. In the evening a levee and banquet were held at the Town Hall, and were attended by 1,100 people. The whole of the day's proceedings passed off with great eclat.
