MELBOURNE MARKETS.

The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reported as follows of the local grain market on Wednesday last:— Wheat firm, and in active demand at 4) 5d to 4s 6d. Malting barley, at 3s 9d to 4< 9i ; market weaker. At the wool sales on Thursday, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (limited), catalogued 4600 bales, including 1800 bales scoured wools. All good wools elicited a brisk competition, last week's prices being firmly maintained; Inferior and faulty descriptions, however, were rather lower. Four thousand one hundred bales were sold, greasy realising up to 131 and scoured to 22id. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a good competition was experienced.
