MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reported as follows of the local grain market on Wednesday last:— Wheat firm, and in active demand at 4) 5d to 4s 6d. Malting barley, at 3s 9d to 4< 9i ; market weaker. New Zealand oats are in good demand at 2s lid to 3s 2d for feeding, and 3s Id to 3s 2d for milling sorts j New Zealand oats under bond are steady at 2s 2d to 2b sd.
At the wool sales on Thursday, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (limited), catalogued 4600 bales, including 1800 bales scoured wools. All good wools elicited a brisk competition, last week's prices being firmly maintained; Inferior and faulty descriptions, however, were rather lower. Four thousand one hundred bales were sold, greasy realising up to 131 and scoured to 22id. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a good competition was experienced.
