EVANS FLAT SCHOOL EXAMINATION.

The Evans Flat school was examined by Mr Inspector Petrie on Tuesday last. The following are the terms of his report thereon :—: —

Percentage of passes in subjects. 75. There was an excellent attendance of the pupils. The school passed a fair examination. The class presented in standard 111, did much worse than the others. In the other classes, the failures were rarely of a serious character. Heading : Generally fair. Explanation : Satisfactory. Spelling : Good in most cases. Writing : Mostly very satisfactory. In this subject, standard v. was rather weak. Arithmetic : The subject appears to have been carefully taught, but there was a great deal of inaccur. acy in the working. The principles were fairly known in most cases. The mental arithmetic was veiy fair. Grammar: Weak in most of the cases ; the analysis was very poorly known ; the composition was fair. Geography : Satisfactory. History : Moderate in standard HI.; fair'in the higher ones. Sew?D«r : This is carefully taught. Sinking : Moderately done. Suitable science and object-lessons are given, with fair results. The pupils were orderly, quiet and attentive, and showed good tone. No doubt the crowded condition of the room has caused a lower result than may be looked for in future. The school is evidently managed very creditably.

D. M. Pjetrib, M.A , Inspector.
