THE LAND BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday, when there were present— Messrs J. P. Maitland (Chief Commissioner), J. B. Bradshaw, and J, Duncan.
Mr John Thompson, on behalf of a few settlers, requested that sections 9, 11, 12, 13, and 14, block xn., Benger district, should be opened for selection under the
deferred-payment system. —The District Land Officer reported that the sections were suitable for agricultural purposes, and the Chief Commissioner stated that when the land was being dealt with formerly these sections were withheld, as they were covered with manuka bush, which it was then thought would be of much service to the settlers. — It was recommended that the application should be referred to the Government for approval. The District Land Officer forwarded an application by Mr John Hogg to purchase section 74, block in., and section 63, block vi., Tuapeka West district, being portion of mining reserve, and recommended that the same be granted. — The Board decided to allow the applicant to purchase the land under section 164 of the Land Act, the District Land Officer to be appointed appraiser to make a valuation of it.
The following applications to purchase were recommended for the approval of the Governor: — 1579 c, James Hore, sections 1, and 4, block xvi., and section 16, block vii., Maniototo; 1248c f J. H. Waighth, section 16, block x., Teviot district ; 1608 c, William Saunders, sections 57. block i., and 30, and 33, block in., Teviot ; 1515 c, Stewart M'Coinb, section 37, block xviii., Tuapeka East.
The following applications for issue of deferred-payment licenses were granted: — Waitahuna West — Peter Keenan, section 9, block ix ; Patrick Downey, section 10, block vi ; Duncan Robertson, section 23, block x • R. G. Fulton, section 14, block xi ; F. S. Webster, section 10, block ix., William M'Millan, section 15, block XI ; Hugh Bruce, section 8, block xi ; Jno. Girvan, section 6, block xi.
An application to transfer deferred-pay-ment liceuse under the 65th section of "The Land Act, 1877," was granted Edwin Ellis to Daniel Clark Dalton, section 2, block xv., Crookston district.
