WASTE LAND BOARD.

The Waste* Land Board met on the 24th. Present : The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Butterworth, Clark, Strode, and Tolmie. ■ Mr Doughty's application for Messrs Nicol and Mackay, for a saw-mill license at Waipori Bußb, was postponed. The application by Messrs Connell and Moodie for a reduction of fee for the sawmill ut Catlin's River, of Messrs Guthrie«*nd Asher, was referred to the Surveyor"' for report. Messrs Connell and Moodie's application for permission to John Nelson to complete survey of land in block 13, Hillend, was granted^ Survey to be completed by the ' district snrveyor. " It was directed that Mr Jay be informed that the Government does not wish' to take advantage of -the expiry of his agricultural lease, Leaning Block, * since his application te purchase. Messrs Uren and Bennett's application' to purchase 13 acres of land in block 2, Mount Benger district, Was declined, as contrary to the regulations. Richard Barnett's request to reserve land sufficient for water- race*purposes from that applied: for by Messrs 0. aud J. Tamblyn, 'was declined/ as contrary to the regulations. Messrs Tamblyn's application was also declined, and last week s decision reversed.' Bobt. Cryling's application to purchase was declined for the same reason. Mr A. Neville's application for permission to Messrs Chatbum, Wren, Martin, and Broad to divert part of the mainjroad from Teviot to Coal Creek, was referred to the Government. Sir F. D. Bell inquired if certain land in Bhag Valleyhad -been reserved, and was informed, through Mr George Cook that it was proclaimed Jijely a goldfield,

Mr Cook agreed to give fresh notices lor the appointment of an engineer to report on the race he proposes to carry through the private property of Mr, B. Luke It was decided that the Board, having decided to withdraw the land from sals applied for by'Captaiu Mackenzie through Me t-rs Kenyon and Turton, considered there was flp case to submit to the Supreme Conit. The withdrawal was directed to be notified in the Gazette.. The Hon. Dr Menzies was directed to be informed that the Und near Tapanui, which he petitioned should J>e. opened for occupation on deterred payments, was already withdrawn from. sale. The applications of Alexander Aitken and W. £L Huff, to purchase lands held under agricultural leases, were sanctioned ; as were also the Applications ' of Jacob Shearing, Robert Fqrd, William Colquhoun, R. Sutherland, Herbert M'Kinlay, S. Williamson, and J. Downie. A rehearing of a case already decided in the. case of Mr Feraud, waatfiantcd for this day fortnight ; notice to be" aent to the parties, the Judge's opinion being that such a rehearing could be given. Mr Edward Cook's- application, to have the names of Mr Thomas Jewitt and others registered as having a share in a coal mine, was declined. The consideration of Warden Beeth.\m, on Messrs D. Aitken and William Barker's application for a saw-mill license at Batcher's Creek, Skippers, was postponed* ■
