CORRESPONDENCE.

THR BBAUMONT ROAD, ET GET ERE. {To the Editor.) Sir, — The Lawrence Town Council has succeeded in wresting from the Government a sum of money for expenditure upon that portion of rhe Beaumont road more immediately adjoining the township, for the performonce of which necessary ; work we ought to be and doubtless are, devoutly thankful ; but the question arises, could 'not the Town Council by the exercise of a little perseverance, persuade the Government to make good the road the whole way to the Beaumont 1 It is late no doubt, buc if undertaken at once, it might yet be completed before the rigor of winter is upon us. If the meeting of the Provincial Council and nonsense of that sort is waited for — it is, of course, a different thing. If those who have the guidance of such matters had to travel the road during winter, they would, I fancy, bestir themselves in the road making direction. The' present Secretary for Publio Works — Mr. Horace Bastings — knows the road well, every inch of it. Surely a proper representation would meet with his support. Relative to the Lawrence post-office, [ understood that great works were under weigh. A public meeting was to be called, and the matter canvassed with a view to reform. Nothing has been done, and nothing will be unless importunity is kept a-going. The inconvenience suffered by the public is so great and the evil so glaring as to require no description. The remedy is equally patent, and might be applied with ease if our local public men would but bestir themselves. The Mayor is aware of all the facts— why is it that he refrains from acting in the matter? — I am, &c., Ojvw.
