THE PRICE OF BREAD.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.) Sic, — I have perused' with very great satisfaction- "Stamina's"' letter in your last issue, on the bread question, and can thoroughly endorse him as far as he goes. I regret, however, that he has omitted to supply us with the " Barmy " portion of our grievance, that is its lightness, but I can supply the deficiency by assuring thaigentleman and the public in general, that they arc not getting more than 3£lb. for the four pouud loaf. This is a serious item in a family like mine, consuming as we do at least eight loaves a week. I am robbed you see to the extent of two pounds of broad in the week, and I cannot call it by any other name than robbery. A robber is "as much a rascal in the baker's shop as on the highway, and as your correspondent remarks it is high time that we looked at thi3 robbery in the face — if there is law in Otago I moan to have it. Of course it does not matter to those who are making their " pile," but to a man like myself with slender income I neither can, nor will stand it. I cannot say how many shares I can take in a co-operative bakery, btit the necessity for such an enterprise has my heartiest sympathy. — I am, Sir, yours 'faithfully, " Bans ockb." Ryecroft Cottoge, Tuapeka Flat, Oct. 7th, 1868.
