DANCE AT SCARGILL.

Plunket Society Members Hold Cornival. The members of the ScargSU-Motunau Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society held their annual fancy dress ball on Thursday evening in the Scargill Hall. The hall was again an outstanding success both socially and financially. There was a very large attendance, which included many visitors to the district. Complete arrangements for the enjoyment of their guests had been made by the ladies of tho Plunket Committee, with Mrs H. V. Murray as president and Mrs R. S. Johnson as secretary, and the hall was suitably decorated for the occasion. Music was supplied by the EvansCampbell Dance Band (Christchurch), and Mrs B. A. Coe and Messrs D. Pairbairn and G. A. Greig played extras. Messrs J. Lambie und A. Stewart were masters of ceremonies.

Many of those who attended were in fancy costumes, which were judged by Mrs H. T. Little (Hui Hui, Ha warden). Following were the winners of the various prizes:—Best dressed lady, Mrs Lf. V. Murray (Early Victorian Lady); best dressed gentleman, Mr E. Wilson (Cowboy): best dressed couple, Mr and Mrs A. T. Allan (Mickey and Minnie Mouse); best home-made costumes, Mrs R. S. Johnson (Spanish Lady; and Mr R. A. Coe (Turk); prettiest costume. Miss Dorothy Paterson (Carmen): most original, Mr ii. Gallop (Father Christmas); cheapest. Miss Marjorie Irvine (Beach Girl); funniest costume, Messrs A. and R. Gardner (Wheelbarrow Derby).
