Lyttelton By-election Announcement. > Mr E. L. Hills has announced that he intends to contest the Lyttelton byelection as an Independent Labour candidate. Mr Hills was one of those who took a prominent part in forming the Independent Labour group which first came before the electors of Christchurch at the last municipal elections. Mr Hills stood as an Independent Labour candidate in the last by-elec-tion in the Lyttelton electorate against the late Mrs E. R. McCombs and Mr F. W. Freeman. He polled 269 votes out of a total of more than 10,000 votes east. Mrs McCombs secured a majority of 2669. At the last municipal elections Mr Hills polled only 3000 votes and was not among the successful candidates.
