ON ’CHANGE.

Govt. 1940 Stock Firmer. A QUIETER CALL. Procera Bread Fluctuate at High Rates. There was a smaller turnover on ’Change this morning compared with the very heavy business yesterday. \ alues were firm, with a further rising tendency in some issues. The 1940 Government stock confirmed recent strength with business at a rise of 2s 6d: and other issues in this section remained at late rates. The banking division was quiet. National of Australasia quotations coming close together for the £lO paid scrip, buyers being at £l2 11s and sellers at £l2 14s. Bank of New Zealand quotations closed 2d on either side of yesterday’s sales price. Canterbury Frozen Meat shares took a turn for the better, and after yesterdavV business at £9 10s. there were further buj-ers at that figure this morning, while reported dealings were put through at a rise of 2s 6d. Breweries were more active. New Zealand shares rising fractionally; and Tooths relapsing a little to 55s 6d. after which the market stood from 55s 6d to oos 9d. Quotations in the miscellaneous section were practically unchanged. Broken Hill Proprietary still being at high rates from 5Ss 3d to 595. New Zealand Drug Co. scrip was wanted at 83s 3d. sellers at 84s 6d. A stronger demand set in for New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op shares, and buyers raised j their bids slightly. Wool worths ! (N.Z. ord.) were not quite so firm. Mining was quiet, and lacked much interest. In unlisted issues, buyers were still keen to do business in Procera Bread 10s shares, the market rising quickly to 655, after which there were further dealings at 61s and 60s*, the market looking easier.

TO-DAY IN AUCKLAND

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. After heavy trading yesterday after* noon business opened rather quietly this morning. Government stocks were again in keen request, but most sellers had withdrawn, and the only lots on offer at the first call were 1940’s at £lO4 and 1938-43’s at £lO6. A big list" of local body scrip, totalling fifteen separate issues, was on offer, but there were buyers for only three. Banks were steady, with New Zealand quoted 50s 3d to 50s 6d. In the insurance section South British continued firm, and buyers moved lip to 97s 6d, sellers standing out for 99?. Auckland Gas maintained recent improvement with buyers at 26s 9d, holders asking 27s 3d. New Zealand Breweries were firm with inquiries at the last sale price of 52s 3d. With values firm and moderate trading. the Fxchange continued in a healthy condition at noon. In the banking section holders of New Zealand raised their limits to 50s 9d. Sellers came in for both E.. S. and A.’s and National of New Zealand at £5 2a 3d, and 70s 6d respectively. New Zealand Newspapers continued active at recent rates.
