Golden Wedding Celebrated at Akaroa. Mr and Mrs Alexander Robert Munro, well-known residents of Akaroa, celebrated their golden wedding to-dav. They were married at St Peter’s Church, Akaroa. on June 25, 1885, and have lived in Akaroa ever since. Mr Munro was born at Pigeon Bay, where his father farmed, but he settled in Akaroa at an early age, and carried on the business of a boot and shoe dealer which he still retains. Mrs Mary Anne Munro. is the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Penn, who. with their family, emigrated to Akaroa in the early days from Lincoln, England. Mrs Munro, prior to her marriage, was on the staff of Messrs J. D. Garwood and Co., then a trading organisation of considerable importance. Mr Munro is an ardent worker for the Presbyterian Church, being a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher and librarian. He was on the Borough Council for upwards of thirty years, being dep-uty-Mayor for a term, and also a Justice of the Peace. In his younger days he was a keen cricketer and for mamyears played in the local eleven. He was also an active member of the Akaroa Boating Club. Later on, he took up bowls and became very proficient at the game, winning many trophies. Mrs Munro. though of a quiet and retiring nature, is greatly esteemed by her friends for her hospitality and kindheartedness. They have a family of six, four daughters—Mrs A. J. Orme (Robinson’s Bav), Mrs G. Warren (Timaru), Mrs L. Kerr (Ashburton), Miss Nancy Munro (Akaroa), and two sons, Mr W. Munro TChristchurch). and Mr J. Munro (Akaroa). There are eleven grandchildren
