Women’s Institute. (Special lo the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON. June 24. A meeting of the Allenton Women’s Institute was held on Saturday, the president (Mrs E. S. Chambers) presiding. One new member was elected. Miss E. J. Watt gave a lecture on ” First Aid in Cases of Emergency.” and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competitions resulted as follows:—Eggshell mosaic—Miss K. Copland 1, Mrs L. McNatty 2. Mrs P. Noble 3. Eggless cake—Mrs L. A. Walker 1, Mrs A. Corbitt 2, Mrs E. S. Chambers 3 Bed sox—Mrs L. A. Walker 1. Premier bloom—Mrs A. Horsey 1. Mrs A. Corbitt 2. Mrs W. Ilealy 3. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Stevenson, 11. Stevens, T. Anderson, 11. Silverwood and J. H. Ward. Personal. Mr G. II B. Lill (president of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Assocaition) left Ashburton to-day for Wellington to attend the annual conference of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Mr D. G. Mcllroy, of Blenheim, arrived in Ashburton to-day to join the staff of the Public Trust Office. Mr M. O’Reilly will leave on Wednesday under transfer to Christchurch.
