“LORNA DOONE.”
Blackmore’s Great Love Story at Plaza. Few books in English literature hold the position of Blackmore’s “ Lorna Doone.” The love story of John Ridd and the beautiful Lorna is familiar to thousands. The film version is now showing at the Plaza Theatre and it is a triumph of screen adaptation. The most fervent admirer of the classic could not accuse the producers of taking any liberties with the book. It is all there. The characters have been faithfully copied from Blackmore’s description and the romance and action of the story are presented against a background of the beautiful Devon countryside and the rolling downs of Exmoor. John Loder, big, strong, and a man of the open air, is well cast as lohn Ridd. He is equally good as the humble lover and the determined avenger in his assaxilts against the strength the outlawed Doones. Victoria gives a. most impressive performance as Lorna. There is a strong supporting programme.
