CLOTHING FOR CHILDREN.
New clothing and goods suitable for children attending school are wanted immediately. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) issued an appeal to-day in which he expressed the hope that such articles would be sent by citizens to the Canterbury Education Board’s office, with the parcels marked: “School Children’s Relief Fund.” The Education Board will take care of the parcels and arrange for their distribution. As a result of the general appeal on behalf of children in distress, Miss Havelaar, of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Mayor’s Fund, has supplied the Mayoress with new goods, not sufficient to supply all the schools but enough to help in a few schools. These goods were distributed to the headmasters by Mrs Sullivan this morning, and were very gratefully accepted.
