“BROADWAY BILL.”

Excellent Racing Story at Mayfair. \Varner Baxter anrl Mvrna Loy make a fine romantic team in “ Broadway Bill,” which is now well into the second week of its popular season at the Mavfair Theatre. It is a story of a nomad who throws away a life of luxury for the love of a horse and, incidentally, a girl. Drama, pathos and humour are carefully blended and the audience is quickly sympathetic to the owner of Broadway Bill, a horse that gives his life in winning his owner’s fortune. llow the lovers are brought together and are able to find happiness that has been denied them makes a delightful ending to a vivid story. The major role is perfectly handled by Baxter. Although it offers many opportunities tor over-acting, he never falls into this trap and the result is a delightful characterisation of a man who prefers to wander in the out-of-the-wav places and look at horses rather than settle down to a hum-drum life in a boxmaking factory. And Mvrna Loy is equally attractive. She has a role different from anything she has attempted before, but she corner through with honours. Excellent shorts are also screened. /
