REQUEST REFUSED.

Building Site Will Not be Handed Over. The Selwyn Plantations Board did not agree this morning to a proposal from the Waimairi Beach Progress League to vest control of a quarteracre section in its reserve at North Brighton in the Waimairi County Council. The league’s object is that the section should ultimately be handed over to residents of the district for a hall site. Mr C. G. S. Ellis presided. Mr W. P. Spencer said that the Plantations Board had an area of 150 acres at North Brighton. He thought one local body should. assist another. He suggested that a quarter-acre section should be set aside for that purpose and vested in the Waimairi County Council. The County Council might be prepared to give a few pounds for the section. Mr G. Hall said that the New Brighton Borough Council had land adjoining that of the Plantations Board. The Borough Council would be more interested in the proposition. Mr Spencer said he was sure that if the Waimairi County Council was in the position of the Plantations Board it would agree to the proposal. lie suggested that the board pay a visit to the district. “If you see the district you might change your views.” he added. A motion was passed refusing the request. It was stated that the sections would be valuable as building sites in a few years’ time.
