A cloudburst at Amiens flooded the i low-lying quarter of the town to a ‘ depth of six feet. The inhabitants took , refuge on the roofs and were rescued ■ by boats. Five soldiers practising at the garri- j son shooting range, which became a lake, are missing. It is feared they j were drowned. Numerous cottages were overwhelmed. A textile factory was damaged to i the extent of £'150,000. Lightning killed a man at Rheims. Crops in many districts are sub- 1 merged. Communications are disorganised f throughout the country.
