AN AMALGAMATION.
Relief of Distress in Wellington. WELLINGTON, May 27. The Mayor, Mr Hislop, announced to-day the amalgamation of the forces of the Mayor's Distress Relief Fund and the Smith Family. The new organisation will be known as the Mayor’s Metropolitan Relief Committee. The new committee comprises the Mavor as chairman, the ftev V. R. Milne. Messrs A. E. Nimmo, R. Tait, C. A. L. Treadwell, E. Kelly and L. A. Hill Colonel A. Cowles was appointed secretary-manager. The -main object of amalgamation is to avoid possible duplication and overlapping, and to create a strong body for the purpose of raising necessary funds. Certain of the works carried on by the Smith Family will be continued by that organisation, such as the national milk supply for children and the travelling library, but all general works will be carried on by the metropolitan body.
