RICCARTON GALLOPS.

Dunedin Candidates at Work. The weather was fine for the work at Riccarton this morning. A few of the candidates for the Dunedin meeting galloped on the No. 1 grass track, but there was not much excitement. Fracas covered a mile in lmin 43 2-ssec. Knock Out finishing with her after joining in for a little over six furlongs. Red Dance and Pompeii were on terms at the end of six furlongs in lmin IS l-ssec. French ie and Madam Pompadour did six furlongs in lmin 19 2-osec. Royal Gallant sprinted half a mile in 50sec. McHeath jumped off in front of Sea Fox at the seven-furlong post and they were on terms at the winning post, after doing lmin 30sec. Quebec, with First View for the last, half-mile, did seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssee. Grand Review took lmin 32 2-sscc for seven furlongs. Three hurdlers schooled once round in company. Olive Smith (G. Murfitt) and Starlight (11. Turner) led Anvil (R. Drinkwater) over the first two, but they were together over the last two flights. All jumped well, though Anvil hit the third. ENGLISH CLASSICS. Three-year-old Prospects Discussed. (Special to the “Star." LONDON, May 9. It has long been the ambition of the Aga Khan to have a horse who would win all the classic races and complete his career with an unbeaten record Ilis hopes are now raised that Bahram. who was successful in all his five races as a two-year-old and who has now won the Two Thousand, Guineas, may achieve this outstanding distinction. Bahram is undobutedly an exceptional horse. I do not think that either his owner or trainer, Frank Butters. dared to believe that he was as good as his success in the Guineas suggested. He met all the best colts of his age. and he won with the utmost case, finishing a length and a half ahead of his stable companion. Theft. Sea Bequest was third, and then came Lord Derby’s Bobsleigh. I do not think Theft will run in the Derby. The Epsom course of a mile and a half is too far for him, but the Aga Khan has another string to his bow in Hairan. and at the present time it is assumed that the stable will produce the Derby winner. Bobsleigh was a disappointment. At any rate, his form was much below what had been expected. He had run a remarkable trial, and on the strength of this he was made favourite. But Lord Derby’s colt never looked like winning, and he finished behind the placed horses. It can be faken for granted that none of the runners was as fit as he will be on Derby day. and Bobsleigh will probably make more improvement than the others, but to have a chance with Bahram he will have to advance at least 101 b more than the Aga Khan’s champion, and this is scarcely to be expected. This is the situation at the present time, and I do not think it will undergo any important change. The One Thousand Guineas was won bj r the French filly. Mesa, and her success -was just as easily gained as in the case of Bahram. But the value of the performance was doubtful. Her rivals were a plain and moderate-looking lot much below the class of the colts. Hyndford Bridge, who was second, was reckoned 211 b inferior to Bahram on two-year-old form, and the difference between them to-day is probably not less. In a recent race Sea Bequest, who was third in the Two Thousand Guineas, finished far in front of Hyndford Bridge. Mesa is to remain in this country, being trained for the Oaks by Frank Hartigan, and this means that she will miss her P'rench classic engagements. It is notable that on three occasions during the past seven years the One Thousand Guineas has been won by French fillies. The other victors were Taj Mah in 1929 and Kandy in 1932. Brulette, who carried off the Oaks in 1931, also came from France. ACCEPTANCES. Otaki Racing Club. Per Press Association. OTAKI. May 27. TARAR.UA HAQK HURDLE HANDICAP. of 90 sovs. One mile and a
