Ashburton Union. ASHBURTON. May 27. The weekly meeting of the Ashburton Rugby Union was held to-night. Mr J. C. C. MeLachlan pi'esided. The president extended a welcome to Mr J. W. Ramsay, who was appointed to the committee at its last meeting. The draw for Saturday is as follows: Senior Grade—Methven v. Rakala. at Rakaia (Mr J. MacMillan); Allenton v. Technical Old Boys, at show grounds (Air L. Hadley); Old Boys a bye. Junior Grade—Methven A v. Old Boys, at Methven (Mr G. Cartwright); Hinds v. Mayfield, at Hinds (Mr C. T. Miller); Springburn v. Tinwald, at Tinwald (Mr D. Wood); Methven B v. Technical Old Boys, at show grounds (Mr A. Benison); Rakaia a bye. Third Grade—Methven v. Rakaia, at Methven (Mr G. Cates); Allenton v. Old Boys, at show grounds (Mr A. Cox); Technical Old Boys v. High School, at show grounds (Mr C. W. Wellman). Fourth Grade—Technical v. High School, at show grounds (Mr G. W. Brown). The secretary reported that the Tinwald Club was experiencing considerable difficulty in fielding a team, and a meeting was being held to-night. It was stated that a meeting called last week to consider forming a fourth grade team to embrace players not associated with any club had been poorly attended. It was decided to make another endeavour to form a combined team. The Canterbury Rugby Union confirmed Monday. June 3, for the Canterbury B v. Ashuurton fixture at Ashburton. The Referees’ Appointment Board submitted the names of Mesn’-s C. W. Wellman and J. MacMillan for placing before the New Zealand Union as suitable for controlling interprovincial fixtures. The following will represent Ashburton County against Canterbury B at Ashburton on Monday, June 3:—Fullback, B. Gor«Jon (Rakaia); three-quar-ters, T. Lilley (Methven), A. Bradford (Old Boys). G. Stephen (Methven) or C. H. Davison (Rakaia); five-eighths. R. Palmer (Methven). D. McCormick; halfhack, T. Cates (Allenton); forwards, N. Hawke (Technical Old Boys), E. McKenzie (Methven), A. and B. Doig < Rakaia), C. Pablecheque (Methven), A. Bolan (Methven), K. Doig (Methven), F. Pennal (Allenton). Emergencies—J. Varroe (Technical Old Boys). A. Argyle (Old Boys), C. R. Jackson (Allenton). Mr G. Day was appointed manager, Mr J. MacMillan referee and Mr L. Hadley to control the curtain-raiser. Messrs F. Kennedy (Ashburton), D. McDonald (Methven) and J. F. O'Reilly (Rakaia) were appointed junior aelect--11 was decided to postpone all junior matches on June 8. and to notify all prospective senior players for the northern tour to attend a practice match at the Showgrounds on that afternoon.
