ALBURY MURDER.

Clue to the Identy of thVictim. BELIEVED TO BE TYPIST. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, This Day. Some clue to the identity of the girl victim of what has been called the pyjama girl murder, near Albury, New’ South Wales, is possibly contained in information despatched to the Sydney police from Dunedin. About four years ago. a girl employed as a typist in the city left Dunedin for Sydney, where she was to be married. It became known later that when she arrived at Sydney she, learned that the man w r as already married. From that time her former employer heard nothing further from ; her beyond receiving a letter stating that she liked Sydney. Although he i had seen the publised reproductions of the dead girl, he did not connect them with his former employee. The likeness w’as, however, commented upon by a former acquaintance of the girl, who brought the matter before the police. When her former employer was interviewed and the actual photographs of the murdered girl w’ere placed before him, he immediately recognised these as bearing a striking resemblance to the girl who had w’orked in his office. Moreover, the particulars he gave concerning the girl correspended cloesly w’ith those issued by the New South Wales police in respect to the victim. The particulars w r ere sent to the Sydney police three weeks ago. On September 2, 1934, the body of a girl aged about 20 years was found in a culvert near Albury. It was clothed in pyjamas. The face was disfigured and parts of the body w’ere charred. Rain had obliterated any footmarks that might have been left, but deep car tracks w’ere found. It appeared that a car had stopped suddenly by braking near the culvert, and then driven off in the I apposite direction, the police of New South Wales began an intensive search for clues, perhaps the most thorough in the history of Australia. Detectives interviewed people in many countries, including China and America. Rewards were offered for the identification of the victim, w’ho w’as thought at one time I previously to be a New’ Zealand girl, I and for information leading to the conI viction of the murderer.
