OBITUARY.

William Rutherford. The death of Mr William Ruthford. a well-known pioneer resident of Peel Forest. occurred last week at the home of his son, Mr C. W. Rutherford, Masterton. Born in Nelson in 1848, Mr Rutherford moved to Canterbury at the age of 30, and for the next 40 years he was engaged in sheep farming and stock dealing and became widely known throughout the province. He removed to the North Island some 16 years ago. and spent the last few years at Masterton. His surviving children are Messrs C. W. Rutherford (Masterton). J. T. Rutherford (Hataitai), and D G. Rutherford (Peel Forest), and Mesdames G. O’Dowd (Fairlie) and A. J Greigs (Greigs). Mr Rutherford was an uncle of Lord Rutherford, the eminent scientist. Sergeant-Major C. H. Skinner. The death occurred in the Rannerdale Home. Papanui. this morning of Sergeant-Major C. H. Skinner, who served with the No. 3 Field Ambulance of the New Zealand Medical Corp in the Great War. Sergeant-Major Skinner, who left New Zealand with the Main Body, was 59 years of age. He had been ill for some considerable time, but was not admitted to the home until November of last year.
