A DUMAS CLASSIC.

Plaza Has “ Count of Monte Cristo.” “The Count of Monte Cristo,” the thrilling talking film version of the celebrated novel by Alexandre Dumas, is still drawing big audiences to the Plaza Theatre. The exciting adventures of the unfortunate Edmond Dantes, and the terrible revenge which he took upon the three men who condemned him to a living death, have been skilfully blended into a brilliant picture -which provides outstanding entertainment. Although the immortal story of Dumas has been so well adapted to the screen that it carries the audience with it from the first exciting moments, the picture is raised to its high level by the magnificent acting of Robert Donat in the title role. The supports are outstanding.

Bright Production. Romance, adventure, comedy, music, song and dance comprise the cargo of entertainment carried for Christchurch picturegoers on the big liner which is the setting for “Trans-Atlantic Merry-Go-Round,” the film which will follow “Monte Cristo” at the Plaza. A great cast of screen and radio stars is seen in this novel production. Jack Benny is the genial master of ceremonies, broadcasting his radio programmes from a palatial ocean liner plying between New York and Europe, aboard which the entire action of the story takes place. Nancy Carroll is delightful as the star of the performers aboard, and Gene Raymond scores heavily as a young Raffles. A charming romance between Raymond and Nancy Carroll adds to the interest.
