OUTSTANDING REVUE.

“Gaieties of 1935” Present “Hikin’ Thru’.” Better or brighter revue than “Hikin' Thru,” the current offering, has not been offered by Stanley M’Kay’s “ Gaieties of 1935 ” since they first opened at the St James Theatre many weeks ago. Evenly-balanced, ambitious, pleasantly staged and directed, the whole show goes with a swing from start to finish. This week the Gaieties are on a “hike.” That means that everyone is out for a good time. The fun is fast and clever, the singing is sweet and tuneful, and the dancing maintains the high standard already set. To round off the perfect programme there are items to please the more seriousminded. Honours for the evening must go to the Flying Arabs. Seldom in Christchurch has such a daring display of acrobatics been seen on the stags, and the amazing series of handsprings, “ back flips,” complicated tumbling movements and spectacular balancing feats are so bewildering in their rapid dispatch that the curtain is rung down before one realises that the act is over. To-morrow afternoon, at 2.30, a special ladies’ gift matinee is to be given, at which many beautiful pieces of crystal will be distributed, and on Saturday next the funniest of pantomimes, “ Little 80-Peep,” will be staged for the first time. Gifts to be awarded to the boys and girls include a bicycle, valued at £5, and other valuable articles. The cycle will be on view during the week, but particulars will be announced later. Reserves are at the D.I.C. till 5.30 p.m., then at theatre. Day sales may be obtained at Knight’s Milk Bar and Theatre Sweet Shop.
