Various Questions.

Dear Sir,—l, as well as many other readers of the “ Star,” would be much obliged if you would answer the following questions :

(1) When, and how much is the transmitting power of 3YA to be increased? (2) The same question applies to 2YA. Wellington. (3) Is there any place in Christchurch where one can see a daily report on the state of the rivers of Canterbury? (4) Will you please explain why high tide at New Brighton is given as one hour later than at Sumner and Lyttelton?—l am. etc., IGNORANT.

A 3YA official states that the power of 3YA will be increased from 2\ kilowatts to 10 kilowatts within the next two months. He could give no definite information regarding 2YA, but did not think there would be any change for some time. A complete report on the state of the Canterbury rivers is compiled at the end of each week by ihe Acclimatisation Society. If information is required regarding the condition of any particular river during the week, the association is prepared to do its best to obtain the information. The Harbourmaster at Lyttelton states that the difference in times is attributable to the fact that the flood stream moves northwards. Similarly, high tide at Timaru is earlier than at Lyttelton, and at Kaikoura it is some time later.—Ed., “ Star.”
