RATE PAYMENTS.
Heathcote County Records High Percentage. Improved financial conditions are reflected in the payment of rates due to the Heathcote County Council. The last opportunity for payment without the 10 per cent penalty ended at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon and the County Clerk (Mr J. E. P. Neale) stated this morning that 83.96 per cent of the rates demanded had been paid. The amount levied for the 1934-1935 period was £19.745 and at 9 a.m. today £16.597 had been paid. This left a balance of £3166 still to be paid. On the day after the closing date last year £12,568 had been collected of the £17.587 due for the 1933-1934 period. This represented 71.46 per cent of the amount demanded. On April 1, 1934, arrears amounting to £3436 were due. Of this sum £2071 had been paid by 9 o’clock this morning, leaving a balance of £1365 still to be paid.
