"Uncalled For."

Dear Sir,—l notice in your issue of Friday a reply by “ English Lass ” to “ EnZedder.” It appears that your correspondent is one of those unfortunate war brides; if so I could quite understand her feelings towards the people and this country in general. I would like to point out that her predicament surely is no indication that all returned soldiers are in the same catagory; and her insinuation as to our unprogressive methods is , ungenerous and uncalled for.

“ English Lass ” mentions the fact that had she landed with or amongst Maoris perhaps the position would have been different. This traditional remark, of course, is typical of some of our European visitors and tourists, who, while enjoying our hospitality, walk about with a critical outlook. While I sympathise with “ English Lass." I would like to advise her that, if the country is unpalatable, there is always a remedy. Failing this the nature of her criticism is no solution to anv problem.—l am, etc., NEW ZEALAND LASS.
