POPULAR OUTING.

Corsair Social Club’s Wesi Coast Excursion. The Christchurch Corsair Social Club's excursion to the West Coast last weekend was one of the most successful of the mans* popular outings promoted by the club. Two * long trains were necessary to transport the 916 passengers who travelled to . Greymouth. Weather conditions on the Coast were perfect, and the two special trilM organised by the club were well pair** ised. A railway excursion to Rewanoi where the State coal mine is sltu»<w». attracted 282 excursionists, and th*» party spent the morning inspecting the mine workings above ground and admiring the rugged beauty of the mountains and the native bush for which Rewanui is famous. This party returned to Greymouth in time for luncheon. The motor excursion from Greymouth to Punakalki and the Fox River was the second motor trip on the West Coast the club has arranged, the previous one being from Hokitika to H&rl Harlin November last. Sunday's excursion was fully booked and five motor buses and one service car were required to cater for the 97 excursionists who were keen to inspect the famous scenery along the coastal road to Westport. Half of the party had luncheon at Hunters, at Pahautane, and the balance at Prices, at Tiromoana. Halts wers made at Punakalki to view the blowholes and the pancake rock formation at Seal Island, where arrangements are .being made to ship coal by water-fluralng; at the mouth of the Fox River and at Pororarl Beach. The majority of the excursionists also visited the coal mine on Mr Hunter’s property at Pahautane. The magnificent native bush with its nlkau palms and semi-tropical vegetation, in conjunction with the rugged coast line and the Tasman Bea, made the trip an outing to be remembered.
