ROSES AFTER FLOWERING.

Now that the rosea have finished their first flowering period and the bushes are having a partial rest, they should be gone over and given a light pruning. Growths that have flowered should be cut back to a good strong bud. Long unflowered growths are best left till next winter pruning, for if shortened now the result will be a number of short lateral growths. Weak lateral growths should b© cut back to a good bud, and all dead snags cut away. It is not actual pruning perhaps, but a trimming up of the bushes. The result will be that as soon as the autumn rains come there should be a vigorous growth, which will give some fine autumn flowers.
