DIVIDING DAFFODILS.

When lifting daffodils, the question often arises as to what bulbs should, and what should not, be divided. Any bulb when lifted and dried that divides easily should be planted as two. If, however, tEe bulb is what is known as “double-nosed’* and is obviously two bulbs, but joined by firm outer scales,

then they should not be divided. Bulbs that have small offsets attached, but if joined by a firm outer skin, should also be planted without division. When breaking bulbs apart, if the base is firm just run a knife along mid-way, when the bulbs will divide. This prevents the possibility of breaking apart the bulbs and leaving all the bas*:l plate on one half, the other half being quite useless without a portion of the basal plate.
