“NOW AND FOREVER.”
Shirley Temple, Gary Cooper and Carole Lombard. Hollywood’s tallest and shortest stars are featured together in “ Now and Forever,” the first-class drama which heads the new programme at the Regent Theatre to-day. In this film Gary Cooper, who is well over six feet in height, and Shirley Temple, who is the “ biggest little star ” of the studios, are the central characters in an unusual love triangle, the third part being played by Carole Lombard. “ Now and Forever ” not only permits Shirley Temple to exhibit her talents as a juvenile actress, but also gives her opportunity to display her gifts for singing and dancing. She plays the role of the daughter of a confidence man (Gary Cooper). The father has not seen the child since her birth and decides to relinquish his claims to her to his brother-in-law for a cash consideration. But he has reckoned without the child’s appeal, and after his first sight of her he changes his mind and takes her off to Paris to live with Carole Lombard and himself. Hard times tempt him to betray the child, and his struggle against temptation forms the climax of the story. Shirley Temple has been in pictures for three out of her five years. She not only has acting ability and a good memory, but, according to those who know her, .instinctively does things correctly without being told. Box plans at the D.I.C.
