GIRL’S DEATH.
Man to be Charged with Murder. N.I. SENSATION. FINDING OF BODY IN WATERHOLE. Per Press Association.— HASTINGS. This Day. A sensational development in connection with the finding of the body of a girl in a waterhole in the Te Heke district occurred this afternoon, when the police went out into the country to arrest a man who this evening will j be charged with the murder of the girl. I Both the man and the girl were fellow employees on the sheep station of a well-known Hawke’s Bay sheepfarmer, and racehorse owner. Information obtainable from the | police this afternoon was meagre and indefinite. There are now grounds for believing she had been in the water not more than ten days. The name of the dead woman is Eva Madden, and she is believed to belong to Wellington. She was 20 years of age. The Hastings police station this morning was the scene of a good deal of activity, and the local police are now being assisted by Detective-Ser-geant Bickerdike and Detective-Ser-geant Coddington, both of Napier. A preliminary conference was heid this morning by detective officers and doctors, who conducted a post-mortem examination yesterday. The result of their examination is not at present available, but it is known that the examination revealed that the woman j bore head injuries and probable injuries elsewhere.
