The first 55 minutes produced 15 runs. Wyatt’s bruised fingers are not serious. He batted very slowly for 125 minutes. Hammond was subdued and took 50 minutes to score his first fifteen. He batted for 130 minutes. Occasional flashes resulted in five boundaries. Paine luckily survived for 185 minutes. He hit eight fours off Constantine, although the bowling was of medium pace, with an occasional fast one. Rolfe Grant’s puzzling slows tied down Hendren. Leyland put on three runs in 25 minutes. England collapsed after tea against fast bowling. The wicket had become fiery and the last five batsmen put on only 28. Hylton’s final spell took three for 8 in four overs.
