Mr 11. Smallbone (Wellington) is a guest at the Royal Hotel. Dr H. G. Denham returned from Wellington this morning. Messrs A. M. Shirtcliffe and J. A. Redpath arrived from Wellington this morning. Messrs 11. Satterthwaite (Manchester), L. H. Jenkins (Wellington) and H. B. Roe (Auckland) are registered at the Clarendon Hotel. The following members of the Legislative Council arrived from Wellington this morning:—The Hon T. F. O’Byrne, the Hon J. A. Hanan and the Hon J. M’Leod. Mr A. Hawke, of Wellington, publicity manager for Universal Films, has arrived in Christchurch for the screening of his firm's new picture, “ The Man Who Reclaimed Ilis Head.” Dr W. Morton (Wellington), Messrs H. D. Crecdy (.London), A. B. Burgess (Wanganui) and H. V. Wheeler (Melbourne) are registered at the United Service Hotel. ftlr H. L. Fletcher, of London, and formerly of Shanghai, who has been visiting Christchurch and the south, left for Wellington by the inter-island steamer last evening. Captain C. M’Key (London) and Messrs R. S. Martin and 11. A. Smith (Wellington), B. C. Bellhouse, O. Wood and R. W. Willis (Dunedin) and G. Watson and S. Sutton (Nelson) ai-e guests at the New City Hotel. The Hon J. M. Drew, leader of the Legislative Council in West Australia, is visiting Christchurch, and is staying at Warner’s Hotel. He is accompanied by Mrs Drew. They will leave to-mor-row for Dunedin and the Southern Lakes, proceeding later to the Hermitage. Engineer Rear-Admiral G. W. Bodell, R.N. (retired), of London, is visiting Christchurch, and is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. He is spending the summer in New Zealand, and will leave later for Australia and South Africa. He has done some fishing in the North Island. Hamilton business men met on Tuesday to farewell Mr M. Maning, who has been manager of the Bank of Australasia there for thirteen years, and has been promoted to the managership of the Christchurch branch of the bank. Mr Maning was presneted with a cheque for a substantial amount. Messrs A. B. Mackenzie, L. P. Mackenzie, S. G. Mackenzie (Clayton, Fairlie), H. E. Snell (Fiji), A. T. Fauvel (Wellington), A. C. Gillies, W. N. Crighton (Sydney), J. R. Sinclair (Dunedin), R. Parsons (Fairlie) and Dr Bernard Myers (London) are registered at Warner’s Hotel. Mr C. C. Lange (Invercargill) was elected president of the New Zealand Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association at the annual conference of the association this morning. He was elected unopposed to the position vacated by Mr Claude Cowan (Auckland), who was presented with the jewel of past office by Mr Lange. To honour Mr S. G. Bowron on the occasion of his approaching marriage, a gathering was held recently at the tanneries of G. L. Bowron and Co.. Woolston. On behalf of the staff and employees, Mr R. Yorston (manager) presented a Petone rug and a smoker’s outfit to Mr Bowron, and wished him happiness. In expressing thanks, Mr Bowron said fie appreciated the manager’s reference to the good relations existing between the employees and himS3lf.
